most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Both free.
Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Sounds like you may have a browser hijacker on your computer. If you have a home page, click on it to open. If you do not see it, but some other page like a porno website or some kind of advertising website loads instead, that is definitely confirmation of a hijacker. Unfortunately, these are extremely difficult to remove as they hide themselves in your registry under different names. The best software I can suggest for this is Webroot's Spysweeper. You can download at the Webroots website. Cost will run you around $30 for the first year and $20 thereafter. There is also the possibility that you may have to format your hard drive before being able to download spy sweeper but someone else is going to have to give you advice on that. Good luck.

I'm quite sure you have been infected with a spyware / adware. You can use any anti-spyware software like Lavasoft's adaware, PC Tools spyware doctor, Microsoft antispyware, Hijaack This at http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html (if you know how to use it). If all else fails, you can try Browser Hijack Remover at http://discovervalue.com/browser_hijack to do a complete clean-up of unwanted stuff like search bars & browser re-directors.
