It depends on which parent you are talking about. If it's a movie about my Mom the audience will love me all the time, if it's a movie about my Dad, the audience will love me for a while, hate me for a while and then love me again; I had a rough puberty, but then I had the chance to make amends before my Dad passed away.

Did you see the movie "Marvin's Room"?
Go rent it. I'm the daughter in that story. If you can love her then you can love me too.
But, the focus of your parents' lives should not be their children. That is the focus of their children's lives. Your parents were children too, and friends, and lovers, and happy, and sad, and human.
I am lucky to have known my parents better than most. I can see the child in them both. I can see when they were young, when they were happy, why they were sad, and so forth. They have been there to be studied and adored and unlike many I took in all that was there, or at least all they would share.
I have learned a lot. They are the ones who would be loved in their movies, at least if I have anything to do with it. That is all I would want from that movie.
Que the sappy old time music: "You must have been a beautiful baby, you must have had a beautiful smile, you must have baby cause baby look at you now...."

It depends if it's my mom's life or my dad's. If it's Mom's life, yes, but the audience would be hoping I could see things her way. And if it's Dad's, yes also.
