You can check for adware, malware, and viruses. Here are some helpful links to free software.

If you have just purchased broadband then you should check with your broadband Internet Service Provider for help.

The fifth link is a site I found where a similar problem is described. They claim that Norton antivirus slows the computer down to just about zero for 10 minutes or more. Norton and McAfee have problems. I've spent hours working with people who have trouble with updates and such from them.

putting it simply, your computer is infected. with what, i dont know. but your system should not slow down and it should be able to do virus scan if it's not infected.

i assume you didnt have the full suite of internet protection before you got connected to the internet:
- updated your windows patches
- installed firewall with updated patches
- installed antivirus with updated virus signatures
- installed anti-spyware and trojan detector

any of them missing, and you probably got something in your system so it may be too late to clean now.

personally, i'd just reinstall the computer from scratch rather than identify the virus/malware inside it, but you can always try some other means first.

Check the RAM of ur computer (Control Panel>System).
If it is about 128MB u have to increase it to at least 256MB.

Then uninstall useless softwares as they consume alot of memory and make the computer run slow.

Use an antivirus software. Try AVG.
