when I was young (in the 60,s) there was a grocery store that always through away good things, cases of good stuff. I would sell the product door to door. I made real good money as a child. as years went by I came to realize that it was an employee of the store who was a thief and would come back later to retrieve the items.

Not literally, BUT, we used to cruise the streets on our neighborhood semi-annual trash day and the finds you could get doing that were incredible! Sometimes you found antiques that with a bit of TLC turned out totally gorgeous! Other times I have found stuff I converted into usable other stuff....like an old fashioned toilet bowl made into an outside planter. It was the talk of the 'hood, so to speak. I never found old letters or money or anything, as if it was there, I never would have even noticed. I was lookin' for diamonds in the rough and boy, did I find 'em!

I dumpster dive in the garbage dump down the street. I've found many useful things. I've found christmas decorations, halloween decorations, lamps, nice clothes, dishes, a couple old radios, an old record player, and some music cds.

Oh yes, but not literally. I drive around town just to see what might be out there. i found a great old coffee table, and old Victorian couch, several end tables and also a wet bar. You just never know what you will find if you are willing to look. My husband gets embarrassed by it, but I like to be a good Steward of my money. Nothing wrong with freebies!

On different trips to the landfill with our garbage, we were able to get a dresser and a small unit built to look like a child's size refrigerator, with a door and 4 shelves for storage.

I do it online at my local freecycle website- check for yours on yahoo groups. They are usually listed by town or county. Freecycle is like a huge free garage sale!
