Whenever we drive to Vegas from L.A, we average 90mph, and never see a cop. So yes, you can speed in the desert.

Sure you can speed out West. Just don't get caught by the Highway Patrol or the local police.

If the speed limit is 75 you probably can do 80 and not have a problem. But more than 5 miles over the limit and you could be looking at some fines. But then it all depends upon the officer who pulls you over. 1 mile over can be too much for him. Some simple rules about dealing with the cops when caught speeding.

1. Keep you hands where the cops can see them. Safety First.

2. Be Polite.

3. If he asks you if you know how fast you were going you can tell him yes. But allow him to tell you the exact speed. Honesty with the cops can be the best policy especially for speeding tickets.

When I worked in Law Enforcement, if we pulled someone over, the would determine if I wrote them a ticket. If your an asshole you deserve a ticket. If you are polite and friendly it goes a long way!

The rule of thumb is keep even with the flow of traffic. If it is going 85 then go 85, if it is going 50 then go 50. Do not impede the flow of traffic.

There are no speeder safe roads in America. There are roads that a less patroled than others.

Use your best judgement.

There are no unlimited roads, there are no roads that are never policed. There are roads that are policed less often, but you are taking a risk. I have driven US6 through Nevada 3 times and never seen a cop on the open road, but I have no idea whether I was clocked from the air.
