Three of the safest ways...walking, nipple stimulation and having intercourse. Nipple stimulation releases oxytocin, the same hormone that causes contractions. As for intercourse, the prostaglandin hormone in the semen helps to thin out the cervix. Worked for hubby and me on #2! :-) Only have sex if you are certain your water hasn't broken.

There are lots of natural ways to induce labor... first and foremost there are the physical ways... going for long walks and having sex. The prostaglandins in men's sperm can actually induce labor and they definitely help "ripen" the cervix. Other than that there are some herbs that can help. I would contact a professional midwife for a listing of those. The one that I know off the top of my head is Evening Primrose Oil... but you have to be careful even with herbs. I wouldn't use any herbs unless you are over your due date, just to be safe. You want to make sure your baby is fully ready to come out. They know when it's time and your body knows. No need to rush it!

I highly recommend sex.
Worked for me, both my children were born within 48/24 hours of my husband and I having sex.
Other remedies like drinking caster oil or warm baths are just wives tales, they don't work as well. Walking when in the early stages of labor will help speed the whole process though so that's a good one to remember.
Good luck.

Bouncing up and down on your toes. The bouncing stimulates the hormones as the cervix is stimulated. I would not try sex near term. That doesn't seem like a good idea. I know four sisters who claim they drove each other on bumpy roads to get labor going. I rode my horse and trotted a bit. I had my daughter that night. I wouldn't advise riding a horse either.

I don't know if this was the reason I went into labor, but I took a hot bath the night before I went into labor. This was something I hadn't done the entire pregnancy and it felt great.

I've always heard A1 steak sauce on mac and cheese is a near guaranteed thing. It's supposed to induce within 48 hours or something.

Rubbing nipples releases the hormone that causes contractions (that's why breastfeeding helps uterus contract after birth), but that's also known for making contractions more painful
