Every time I play a game online or on a LAN, the game starts lagging like you wouldn't believe, even before I start playing it. I'll just click on the multiplayer tab and then the game lags uncontrollably. I've tried looking around on forums, but apparently this isn't a common issue.

It might be that the network that your cable or dsl modem is connected to is oversubscribed, thus causing a bottleneck. Do a traceroute to some major servers to detect if this is the case. Do some bandwidth speed checks at places like dslreports.com to see if you have a network problem.

Try opening ports on your router, if you are not running a router, try restarting your modem and computer.

This can co inside with the info that the people above me have offered.

My total best advice would be, uninstall the game and re install. Clear all Cache and Cookies.

This means the Temp Internet folder.

while playing the game, turn off AIM(aol Instant messenger) its a total bandwidth hog.

The only other thing i can think about is, run your computer in safe mode once, and then restart in normal.

that sometimes will reset settings and clear any static interference in the network connections.

see that there is no memory resident program or adware or spyware inside your disk. also delete every thing from the Cookies folder in C:\windows\cookies
C:\windows\temp
C:\windows\temporary internet files
C:\windows\web
also see that there is Direct X installed that too above 9.00 version.
restart the COmputer and your network game will run correctly.
cheers.
