Am I the only one with the fasisination with Pirates? I do however think that I am a bit to old for this. Do you still think that they exist like they used to?

Yes there are still pirates off the coast of Kenya as well as around Thailand. The difference between the two groups is the ones around Kenya seem to do it simply for money while the ones around Thailand are apparently trying to help various terror groups in that area. On a side note dude it ain't childish to be fascinated with a way of life or a certain occupation no longer followed. I myself would love to be either a pirate or live as an Iron Age Viking.

There have always been pirates. As long as man has sailed the seas for commerce that have been people who would rob those that own the ships for profit.

Today's pirate grounds are off Singapore in the Straits of Malacca. Off East Africa and the Horn of Africa, Kenya Somalia and Eritrea, West Africa, in the Gulf of Guinea, South America, Off Southern Brazil, and the Caribbean. The US considers Drug Smugglers as Pirates.

I don't think that it's crazy to be fascinated with Pirates. I like Privateers myself and their just a step up from Pirates

You aren't alone; lots of people like pirates especially after the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films were made. You aren't too old unless you start acting like them...LOL.

There are pirates today but they aren't the kind of pirates you would think of.

There's a former history teacher who does history podcasts and occasionally profiles real-life pirates and privateers. Go to his site at www.summahistorica.com.

Sure they still exist. There's a lot of them off the coast of Kenya. Just a couple of months ago there was a story about how some attacked a small cruise ship. But these guys aren't near as nice as Sparrow.

Not dressed like in the movie, but most times in jockey caps, loose fatiques, favourite weapon M-16 or M-14.

They are mean, they don't ARRRGG like their western counterparts but GRRRRR instead.

Back home with their women, they all MMMMMmmm...

They sure do exist, in almost any sea, but of course their not dressed like in the movie's, and they are in the news often, and of course they could also be called, thugs, crooks, or any other name you want to call a thief...

They exist all right. You don't want to meet them. They are murderers, rapists and extortioners, and the old ones were no better. Romantic? About as romantic as AIDS.
