You might want to revisit the place where you met, or had your first or best date. Keep it low key, because he is returning from an experience that is beyond what the rest of us can imagine, and he may not even feel real for a while. Have a wonderful time!
Added: Tara, tara, tara. If you are going to be sanctimonious, place the blame way up high, safe and sound, where it belongs. Treat yourself to a list of the names, ages, hometown, next of kin and PHOTOS of the other victims, our lost kids.

Make him a nice dinner. rent a movie. Spend some quite time with him. Iraq is very stressful and I'm sure he would enjoy some quite time with his sweetie.
