I loved Macbeth because it all the ingridients of intrigue we see in today's political scenario the world over. It has poetry beautiful beyond words. And it has the macabre fairy tale element in the character of the witches. The characters of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth also are so realistic too. It is an engrossing play. I like Othello and Hamlet too. Actually I enjoy his tragedies much more than his comedies. But I must admit I loved and still do love Merchant of Venice a lot.

Henry V. "whoever spills blood with me on this day will be my brother." "Once more into the breach dear Friends" "Upon St. Crispins day!" I also love it when King Henry serenades the French princess to fall in love with him at the end when they don't even speak the same language. Awesome. To add to this, this historical play represents the first and only time France was entirely ruled by England. You can't say the world wouldn't have been better off if that had stuck.

I prefer "Julius Caeser" and "McBeth" - both tragedies, both filled with double crosses. I remember reading McBeth in high school, and in the scene where Lady McBeth is trying to get McBeth to kill Duncan, she says "screw your courage to the sticking place". One of my friends asked the teacher what that meant, and she said, "well, you know what you do when you screw, right?" We all cracked up, she went ballistic, and it was the only time I ever saw an entire class get sent to the principle...
For comedies, I'd have to say "Midsummer Night's Dream" - Bottom is one of the best characters I've ever seen.

I've read nearly all Shakespeare plays and my personal favorite is Julius Caesar because of its drama, brilliance and memorable cast of characters. Twelfth Night is also good

For me, it's got to be Hamlet. I had to study the play for English Lit A-level during a hideous period of my life. H was the only character I'd heard of who was more miserable than I was!

I've just read Hamlet this year and out of the plays that I have read or vaguely heard about, this one is the best. It just deals with many modern issues and the situations are handled unintentionally humorously. I know I and my classmates enjoyed it.
