Someone here needs to get a grip
#1. Its not yopur body when you kill someone else.
#2. No such thing as seperstion of church and state. Its not in the constitution. A mlib judge made that up from thier own mind.

2007-01-07 17:26:10 · update #2

Some of you are still making things up....
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
and.....
"Seperation of church and state"
are very different. The second fall into the...
prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
part of the first.
And why is trying to add an ammendment "trying to distroy it"? We have a provision for adding ammendmants.
ITS IN THE CONSTITUTION!

The only ones who can stop the perversion of this country is We, the People by voting OUT the liberals and their slimy comrades and putting LOYAL PATRIOTIC Americans in high office (and the lower offices as well).
Eternal vigilance is the price of Liberty. We aren't being vigilant if we allow the libs to control the nation.

It was your conservative president that wanted to "Amend" the constitution. Now, tell me again, who is destroying the constitution?

It was actually Thomas Jefferson who coined the phrase "separation of church and state".

It is true, the phrase "separation of church and state" does not actually appear anywhere in the Constitution. There is a problem, however, in that some people draw incorrect conclusions from this fact. The absence of this phrase does not mean that it is an invalid concept or that it cannot be used as a legal or judicial principle.

There are any number of important legal concepts which do not appear in the Constitution with the exact phrasing people tend to use. For example, nowhere in the Constitution will you find words like "right to privacy" or even "right to a fair trial." Does this mean that no American citizen has a right to privacy or a fair trial? Does this mean that no judge should ever invoke these rights when reaching a decision?

Of course not - the absence of these specific words does not mean that there is also an absence of these ideas. The right to a fair trial, for example, is necessitated by what is in the text because what we do find simply makes no moral or legal sense otherwise. What the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution actually says is:

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."

There is nothing there about a "fair trial," but what should be clear is that this Amendment is setting up the conditions for fair trials: public, speedy, impartial juries, information about the crimes and laws, etc. The Constitution does not specifically say that you have a right to a fair trial, but the rights created only make sense on the premise that a right to a fair trial exists. Thus, if the government found a way to fulfill all of the above obligations while also making a trial unfair, the courts would hold those actions to be unconstitutional.

Similarly, courts have found that the principle of a "religious liberty" exists behind in the First Amendment, even if those words are not actually there:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

The point of such an amendment is twofold. First, it ensures that religious beliefs - private or organized - are removed from attempted government control. This is the reason why the government cannot tell either you or your church what to believe or to teach. Second, it ensures that the government does not get involved with enforcing, mandating, or promoting particular religious doctrines. This is what happens when the government "establishes" a church - and because doing so created so many problems in Europe, the authors of the Constitution wanted to try and prevent the same from happening here.

Can anyone deny that the First Amendment guarantees the principle of religious liberty, even though those words do not appear there? Similarly, the First Amendment guarantees the principle of the separation of church and state - by implication, because separating church and state is what allows religious liberty to exist.

I don't think you need a liberal to destroy the Constitution and this country, conservatives are doing a fine job all by themselves. Under conseratives, we are more divided than ever. Our national debt has skyrocketed in the past 6 years. (Which we will need to pay off. I'd rather have taxes raised a little now to pay it off, then wait and have to pay much more in taxes when we even deeper in debt.). Also we are losing the right to privacy through now warrantless mail searches.

This conservative administration has overspent and has expanded govenment, which is actually against the ideals of conservatism. (fiscal responsibility, smaller government)

I enjoy how conservatives fume over the idea of a Muslim Congressman and gay marriage among other what should be non-issues, I guess equal rights is some sort of liberal scam right? Oh BTW, there is such a thing as church-state separation, it's in the 1st Amendement. (Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. This means the government stays out of religion, and religion stays out of government.)

Bwwaaaaaa hah ha ha ha ha. Yeah, those countries are so successful, that's why they're so deep in debt and the people pay outrageous taxes. I also noticed you didn't add in other liberal countries like Greece, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and France. By the way, Poland is considered one of the most conservative nations in Europe today and has the highest rates of economic growth and debt reduction. So sad that liberals consider "success" by the means of how much the country gives in handouts. Oh, not to mention that unemployment in those "successful" liberal countries is skyrocketings. In Greece unemployment is over 50% In Germany the government has only been able to cut unemployment by taking full time jobs away from those who have them in order to give a part time job to an unemployed person. So now instead of someone having a full time job you now have 2 people with a part time job. The best thing about that is? What for it now, Germany taxes part time workers at a higher rate than a full time worker to encourage them to get a full time job, plus part time workers are not eligible for benefits. Doesn't that socialism just work out great for you?

Liberals do not want to destroy our country or the constitution. Liberals just want to make things better for this country. On the road we're on right now where do you see the US heading in 10-15 years? Who are politicians to tell me or anyone who I can and cannot marry or what I can and cannot do with my body? As for this far right conservatism/religious right...give me a break. I swore theres a funny little thing called separation of church and state??
Whether you are a conservative or liberal we are all Americans and we need to work together, open our minds and try to make this country better.
