As a friend you could go with her to support meetings. Maybe she need counseling. Just be the good friend that you have been and reassure her of all the good qualities you see in her. She has a right to be angry but if she allows this to make her bitter towards every man she is robbing herself of a healthy relationship in the future. There are books out to help women cope with such issues. If she isn't ready to read one maybe you can read on and just pass on info little by little. She may value your input and listen. Good luck and stay encouraged!!!

I am so sorry for her. I know that rape is one of the most hurtful things and it takes a long time to trust again if ever. The best thing you can do is first be her friend, let her talk to you about how she feels. this will help you to gain her trust, but most of all take it real slow, for she is going to have to have time to heal and learn that not everyone is a jerk. You also might talk to a rape counsler and see if they could give you any tips. I hope this will help.

I've dealt with this issue in my practice a number of times. The worst thing you can do is treat them like a victim. It is totally disempowering. She needs good professional counseling to deal with the trauma, and good friends who will treat her well and as normal as possible while she processes it. Don't project your stigma of rape and incest on her. She will grow to hate your for it as she gets healthy.
