Arte promised big changes this off season, Has Stoneman delivered? Are the Angels better than the 06 version?

Despite what Arte will say publicly, he won't fire Stoneman for being fiscally sensible (for the most part). Overpaying for Matthews will be deemed acceptable if he lives up to the Gold Glove and bangs a few HRs.

The only thing I don't get is his infatuation with not trading Shields. He's fine, but he was the key in several potential deals that could have brought some protection for Vlad.

I think the 2007 Angels will be better, if for no other reason than health. You can't lose a Cy Young caliber #1 and expect to stay immediately in contention. For better or for worse, Stoneman is staying with the young guys they brought up. A year of seasoning in the majors should have helped.

Stoneman can only spend what Moreno lets him spend. The Athletics lost key personnel, including Zito and Thomas. The Angels picked up Shea Hillenbrand (albeit as a replacement for the injured Juan Rivera). Maybe they are just good enough to win in 2007. Depends on Colon's status, and whether the bullpen will feel the absence of Donnelly and Romero.

I don't think Stoneman will be fired. There was only so much that could be done with the limited free agent market. I don't think he deserves the blame. I think the Angels will be better because their prized prospects are just that much closer to the majors and they will have a full season of Jared Weaver.

Yes, they're better. Not MUCH better, but they will have an easier time winning the division with the Zito-less A's. The Mariners will be last, the A's will be 3rd, the Rangers will be 2nd. They have improved by adding Gary mathews. Several people are calling him a one year wonder, but I think that he is finally hitting his prime, he's got a couple of years left in him like he did last year.

I do not think so. Bill Stoneman, Elgin Baylor and Matt Millen are the three headed Rasputin. They will never get fired no matter how bad their teams do.

how i hope he gets fired. no offense to hillenbrand but hes not the type of hitter than will make pitchers pitch to Vlad. Everyone will continue to pitch around Vlad this year; unless he gets Manny or Helton, i say fire him.
