Ok I'm sick of all these BS answers (mostly at the beginning of this post)!!! Of course wrestling is scripted. Of course the STORYLINES are fake. But what isn't fake is the fact that these wrestlers go out to the ring almost every night of the year (televised and non televised) and bust their asses. They do things in the ring that the average person could NEVER do. You can't fake being hit in the head with a chair. You can't fake being thrown into a pile of thumbtacks. And it takes true skill to execute many of the cruserweight/x-division moves. Sure the outcome is planned but these wrestlers still need to go out night after night and come up with a match which is all up to these wrestlers. The actual performance is not planned, just the outcome.
Anyway........
I do believe WWE is attempting to concentrate on actual matches rather than skits like they did in the late 90's. I think fans are now more demanding on actual great matches. WWE may be having a hard time making this transition. So yes, they're trying to entertain but in a different way. That's what TNA specializes in. They position themselves as "wrestling" not "sports entertainment."

I think they are trying most of the time, but a lot of times it's more about feeding the McMahons egos then what the fans want. I mean, you look at ECW, and I can't help but think that they're just forcefeeding more WWE style programming to an audience that doesn't want it. Don't get me wrong, I know that the new ECW won't be the same, so don't start on that. What I'm saying is that if they're going to use the ECW name, they should at least remain faithful to the ECW *spirit*, which believe it or not isn't barbed wire and tables. It was providing what the hardcore, passionate, smart fans of wrestling wanted at the time. THAT'S what WWE should be going for. Instead we have Batista #2 as the champ, and theres actually rumours going around that he'll face Great Khali at Wrestlemania. Just what *every* real ECW fan wants...
Honestly, there are lots of examples on Raw and Smackdown too, but I can't go on anymore.

Oh i definitely think theyre trying to entertain. Theyre just not trying to wrestle.
Thats why we get the pleasure of absurd gimmicks, and 30 minute promos, and michael richards skits, And main eventers with no in-ring talent. But no good matches.
I think thats why TNA is catching on. It's not entertaining storywise, there are no real promos, storylines even faces and heels. But the wrestling is good, and thats what i find entertaining, good wrestling. So i guess its all up to whoever their core audience is.

They don't. Did you know that it's all made up. Of course maybe some of the pain is real but they all have it already set up. That wat they do to entertain. And yes they have gotten extremely boring and try but not as much as they did be4.
