I have a family heirloom diamond ring that's pear-shaped. Would it be possible to have the diamond changed to a princess (square) -cut?

WHY would you want to do this to a family heirloom? Thats like painting over the Mona Lisa. You CAN make it princess shape but you will have to sacrifice some Karat.

Yes, but the size you would get would depend on any flaws in teh diamond, and the exact shape it is currently in.

I would doubt that the resulting diamond would be much more than 60% the current size.

A better option for you may just be to have the diamond placed in a more modern mounting that may hide part of it's shape

Re-cutting would reduce the carats and cut the value but if that is what you want (and cost a bunch to do).

if it is large enough it can be cut in to different shapes, but it will be smaller.

That would be a question best left to a good jeweler.

It would be possible... But then it will be alot smaller, and less valueble... Think before you do this.
