I recently moved into a beautiful condo in a prime area of town. It's close to everything including work. I have two roommates, and it's in a much safer and cleaner area of town for be me to be in, which I wouldn't be able to afford unless I had roommates. The thing is I found the place on Craigslist. I didn't know the roomates before I moved in. They were described as clean, hard working professionals with quiet lifestyles... the house is smoke free, drug free, and pet free etc... aside from the pet thing, it seemed perfect. Well, now that I'm here, I'm seeing that things aren't drug-free. In fact one of the roommates has people over all of the time, esp weeknights for some reason and they go straight to his room to party. Apparenty they are normally in the living room, but the other roommate thinks he's being shy since I'm new. I'm not okay with this, but I signed a 6 month lease. They misrepresented themselves to me though. Is there anyway out of the lease? What should I do?

WOW, THAT'S A TOUGHY.

IF THEY SUDDENLY GET BUSTED AND YOU ARE THERE, YOU WILL BE HAULED IN AS AN ACCESSORY TO THE CRIME.

I WOULD JUST GO TO YOUR ROOMMATES AND ASK THEM TO LET YOU OUT OF THE LEASE UNDER THE PRETENCE THAT THEY WERE NOT HONEST WITH YOU AND THAT IF THEY DON'T LET YOU OUT OF THE LEASE, YOU WILL HAVE TI TAKE LEGAL ACTION AND IF THAT MEANS TURNING THEM IN FOR THEIR ILLEGAL ACTIONS THEN SO BE IT.

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.

How does your roommate hanging out in his room directly affect you? And the drug problem.... did you actually see them take drugs or seen any drugs in the apartment? Unless their behavior disrupts your life... count your blessings. You're in a great place that you couldn't afford if it wasn't for your two roommates. If it bothers you so much, then you can talk it over with your roommates on how you can break the lease. Usually you have to pay a termination fee and you lose your deposit. But if I were you, just duke it out. Six months from now and you're still uncomfortable with it, then move out when your lease is up....

Don't forget that you can always break the lease. You'll probably have to forfeit the deposit, and will have to have a new roommate lined up, but if you're unhappy this may be you're only option. I made the same mistake once, and got out of my lease, I'm glad I did!

you could always look up your local governments laws for renters rights. who is the landlord? In the past, I had some problems-and it was very easy to find answers-and these usually vary state to state, and county to county. Look in the phone book under free legal assistance, or in the government listing under renter rights/tenant rights.

If you can prove the things you say, they are in breech of contract and you can take them to court to get out of the contract you signed. If you can't prove it, you are stuck for 6 months.

Think of it this way. If a cop stops by and sees 'something' illegal, YOU are just as guilty as they are.
