Search for *.jpg, and make sure your entire hard drive is selected.

in xp when you click start->search->for files and folders, you will get a wizard to guide you through.

you can then just select the option for "pictures, music, or video" or if you want to do it specifically for jpeg files, then "all files and folders" is the better option.

for "all files and folders", enter
all or part of the file name: *.jpeg *.jpg *.jpe
a word or phrase in the file:
look in: local hard drives (or whereever your files are located)

then click search button

It's not that you did it "wrong", it's just that most, if not all JPEG graphics have the file extension of .JPG
So, just search for files by typing in *.jpg instead of *.jpeg
