No, but they should be. I think people that decide to care for a pet rather than bring another human being into this over populated world should be commended.

No. Pets are not taxed deducatble. If you adopt out an animal from a shelter you really can't even deduct that. I tried asking my boyfriend who took a Federal Tax course for his MBA (he's also does accounting work), if I will be able to deduct my adopted dog and the items and he there really is no way.
I not sure, but there was a way if you made a donation (adopted) the dog they would subtract the value of the dog minus the donation and that would be deducatble or something like that. However you can't really prove a dog's worth like that.
So no, trust me I asked. Good Luck

No. However if you were to decide to foster a homeless dog or cat, the pet food, etc, that you buy could be considered deductible on your taxes.

Sadly, no they are not. I have heard stories of people who added them as children on their tax returns but I can't say if that is urban legend or not. Doesn't matter, we love them and are happy to do what is required for them.

Good question, I wish we could but no they can not be claimed as dependents. It is a nice thought though.

I wish it was. With all the food along with the vet bills, it does add up.
