I was wondering aprox. how much a regular oil change (with no other extras) would cost at jiffy lube for a 1998 Honda Accord. Also, I am new to being a car owner, so how exactly does it work? Do you have to make an appointment ahead of time, or can you just show up?

You'll spend anywhere from $25 to $35 for an oil change on your make and model. If you're looking to save a buck watch for coupons in the paper.

They'll check your tires and fluid levels for you and sometimes clean the windshield. Watch out for the up-sale, i.e. transmission service, air filter, unless you know your car needs some maintenance.

Tip: To avoid being sold a product or service you don't need for your car, take the time to buy a book and read a little. A Chilton's manual will set you back about $20 and will give you a schedule of maintenance for your vehicle. You can also buy a book such as Auto Upkeep: Basic Car Care that will give you some handy advice on owning and maintaining an automobile. In a nutshell, arm yourself with knowledge and you'll side-step many of the mistakes most people make when maintaining a car.

Kudos for asking this basic question though, it shows you're on the right path to being a smart consumer and car owner.

He's an updated version of an answer I gave to someone else who asked the same question: Once your care is past its warranty, dealers charge between $80-140 (you were robbed), depending where you live. On the plus side, doing the oil change yourself is extremely easy with a Benz. Even for women! All you need to do is purchase a topsider for around $35 (a vacuum pump that draws the old oil out through the same hole you use to add oil to the engine). You can also buy a tool to remove and replace the filter (around $5 at Advantage Auto Parts). The filter is located under the panel the dipstick fits through. It'll pop right off. Oil prices vary. I use Mobil 0-40 synthetic. Watch for sales and stock up. I just paid $4.70 a quart (my car take 6.5) at Advantage Auto Parts. I also buy new oil filters by the carton from a seller on eBay. The whole oil change is done without having to get under the car. Once you get the hang of it, you'll hardly get your hands dirty! P.S. You also need a container to hold the old oil. You can dump it at your local Wal-Mart's garage for free! Changing the oil yourself won't effect your warranty or the resale value of the car. Just keep good records and be sure to reset you service counter.

If you use the correct oil and you take the car to some one who knows how to do it you will be OK (stamp your book), you can also do it yourself if you know how. It is very important that you keep records of the oil change if you have that it shows that you are giving a good life to your car.I have a BMW and a Mercedes when i sold or trade i always receive top dollar because a have the history of the services. You can tell when you take good care of your car. I hope this will help you, now you have a choice.

It depends on where you live. Most places charge around 20 - 25 dollars.Appointments are usually needed. You drop it off & when they are done they have you pay for it. Before you take your vehicle anywhere make sure the mechanics are certified to work on our vehicle & ask to see certification. Make sure his certification says the mechanics name & cars he is certified for ie>Honda etc...If it does not take it somewhere else. The standard/blanket certification for the business place does not mean that the guy working on your car is certified. These can be easily forged. Having your oil changed by a discount mechanic can cost you big. If the engine blows up after being worked on by them. You have to prove it was their fault & that can be tough to do. Find a Honda dealership & have them do it is the best. It is still going to cost you around 20 - 25 dollars & the mechanics are Honda certified. They know your car & what to look for. If they see something that is going to be a problem they will tell you. If they tell you that you need to fix something do it as soon as possible. Putting off repairs can be expensive if you wait to long.I currently own 5 vehicles & they all go to the dealerships for oil changes & anything else that is needed. If they make a mistake they stand behind their work & will cover the repairs.

It depends which jiffy lube oil change you will use but their standard price is Conventional 44.99, Synthetic Blend 71.99 , and Full Synthetic 89.99. They also offer coupons often that can bring those prices down.

Over 30.00 If there is a wallmart near you they are way cheaper. and its the same quality. No appointment just show up. The oil gets emptied from the oil pan, a new oil filter is put on and oil is added to the engine very simple. Also look for cupons in your neighborhood Jiffylube is to pricey and all they offer that is different is to vacuum your car.
