Just do what you want. If you feel something when you listen then that is a start. But you either enjoy it or you don't.
I find a way to feel 'high' on a lot of different kinds of music, but if I don't feel it, then I don't feel it.

Try more metal and heavy drum music.
I'm a drummer and I'm into the more upbeat songs like System of a Down and even Blink 182 has some good drums. Try mixing around the equalizer to make the drums stick out more.

Just start listening to it- I use to be a country fan (yuck now!) and I met my husband, and all he listened to was rock, so I just start listening to it when he was and now I LOVE it! Don't listen to anything else. Listen to local modern rock stations- they play the new stuff, or newer stuff, and it's all great music! Couple of my favs- Nickleback, three days grace, disturbed (i think there is a lot a drums and different sounds in disturbed, they are good). System of a down (they are just crazy). Anyway- just keep listening to it.

just check out some different genres-punk,metal, modern rock
and see what you like. then just listen to different bands and get a taste of the stlye you like. go to few concerts to get the full effect.
if you're looking more for hard drums and beats, i suggest some punk. The Transplants have a cool combination of west side old school hip/hop beats meets skateboarder and crazy drummer Travis Barker.
it's cool your checking different music. keep expanding.

If you like drums, learn to play them.
There's many kinds of Rock style. Find a Rock genere you like. Accoustic Rock isn't the same as electric rock, and who says rock NEEDS guitars?
On the other hand, if you like Hip-hop, stick to that.

There is a great variety of Rock music. All of it sounds somewhat different. However, I would have to ask why it is you are tying to get into rock music. There is nothing wrong with liking hip hop. (Well. "Nothing".)

green day did it for me, they opened a whole new world when i was just about 5-years-old, when dookie came out, and from there on out, i was addicted, just listen to things with beat, there is plenty of rock songs out there witha good beat to them, you just have to look
another good one is "the ramones" amazing band, they opened the doors for all of the punk rock bands of today, they basically were the founders of punk rock
punk rock is probably your best bet, they have banging beat, catchy lyrics, and good points to match any mood
