Let me answer you in a round about way!

You have seen a lotus leaf in a pond , I suppose. Have you noticed the way an amount of water, on the leaf, behaves? Unlike the water drops on other leaves of the plant, the water drops on a lotus leaf remains unattached. It does not stick to the leaf .

This comparison is given for aiming at peace within. If we can be like the water on the lotus leaf, unattched and unaffected by things around us, we can have peace.

In my opinion peace , as an idea, is NOT utopian. If I can achieve within myself I will see peace all around me. I will not get agitated by the disturbance of peace around me. This is what peace is all about.

Instead the politicians and Statesmen want to establish peace for the world collectively. But by force, like in Iraq. We can never achieve that peace. If all of us can have peace within ourselves we can call it an achievable thing.

An interesting question...I once did an essay on this kind of question. I do think that peace is a sort of utopia, since a utopia is a perfect world. Of course, even with peace, I'm sure everything wouldn't be perfect, but its still a state of perfection, in a sense. Compared to how the world is today, peace would indeed be paradise. =)

Peace is indeed a great wealth... and so difficult to earn and having earned, to keep it safe...

You have not however said an "enduring peace" in which case peace for a significant period could be achieved by a smart ruler in a country of normally benevolent people (since minimum force would be required to put down deviants without much violence and consternation)...

Also prolonged peace or joy can also create drudgery, as people want challenges to feel worthy of the life... if good adventures are not forthcoming, they jump into misadventures... You would have known that the suicide rates are high in very rich communities... as they can have anything with the affluence they enjoy and life becomes a meaningless existence...

So if peace is not defined too theoretically (as Utopian concept) to connote total lack of any challenge to peace, but a will to face any challenge to keep the reign of peace over disruptive forces (unlike present day strategy of cold wars and selective combat strategies, to serve narrow regional /national interests), then the situation would be a salutory one and practically possible, pleasant and enduring as well..

That is a good thought! But i don't think peace is Utopia alone. It will take more than peace to bring Utopia, and I don't think we will ever see it, not in our time.

Perfect peace forever is an unattainable dream in this physical dimension. We are creative beings who thrive on creating drama and seeking joy. In order to seek joy we must always be in a state where we feel the need for more joy. Therefore, we continuously create drama and upheaval. It is an endless cycle, as is life.

Peace is a utopian idea. As such, it is , by definition, not possible in the real world. There will always be a reason for one person or group to fight another one.
