my husbands family is all passed on and the only thing he has left is this car that was his father's . Was garaged for years and it was (cherry) - low milage too. The high end of the motor needs work- it's not driveable. So the car has been sitting for almost a year now out in the elements and the body is starting to rot on the lower panels. It's a shame - but we can't afford to fix it as we have had several problems with our other 2 vehicles which are not very new- 89 & 92 - so they are constantly needing something. I would love to get this car fixed for him- he's been so depressed since he has had no family for almost two years now! His father to cancer. His mother to a stroke and then heart attack. His brother became alcoholic almost died several times from alcohol poisoning- but finally had heart attack . We live in tolland county- take care of my 85 year old mother who lives an hour away- so I'm not working - so things are tight. anyone has any answers - appreciate it.

Call the local college and ask. I went to a college and we had people come buy all the time and ask. it does make a good project car.
The only draw back is its age. most colleges will only teach the new stuff not the great cars of yesterday.
Most mechanics today dont even know what a set of points are or what a carb does let alone work on anything less then say a 90.
To bad you dont live here in vegas as I am from the old school and would love something like that to work on.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn't sound like the car would be worth fixing at all!!! If it has been "sitting" outside for that amount of time, chances are ANYTHING that gets "touched" will break before it comes apart. You probably won't be able to get parts for it, due to it's age. Then there is the body. Safety becomes an issue when it comes to that. Chances are, your brake and fuel lines are rusted through. Keeping and fixing this car will cause you more grief than it's worth. I'm sorry, and I appreciate finances must be tight in your situation, but you are far better off scraping together what little funds are available, and purchase something newer and more economical. If finances don't allow, you'll simply have to do without. Sorry if it's not what you wanted to hear.
