I am getting over the flu and I am supposed to work until 6am. I feel horrible, but better than I did yesterday. The only person who could cover for me just went home. The people here at work (I am a boss) are being pretty inconsiderate and I am in no mood for their neediness tonight. What should I do?

I know you are feeling bad but if the person that could cover for you left and then you leave, who is going to be in charge? What kind of work do you then think would take place with no boss there to supervise the employee's? So think about this and since you are management you need to stay tonight. This is probably what you don't want to hear but take some Alka Seltzer Cold Plus gel caps and you will be able to make the shift. Stuff works great to help you feel somewhat better. Good luck.

As the boss it's ur job to work when no one else will, including when ur sick. I'm the Director of QC at a call center and I've worked with a fever and the flu more than once. Suck it up till 6am. Then go home have a nyquil and some juice or tea... and try to make it in for ur next shift.

You're a boss for a reason. If you can make it thru the nite, you're setting an example for your workers. Often when we don't feel good, everything is exaggerated (noise, temperature, sensitivities) and we take them too personally. If the others are "kicking you while you're down", try to maintain a professional attitude, document nasty stuff and go home after puking into the air conditioning duct.

Yes girl. Go home, and stay home. Drink orange juice or Sunny Delight (lots of vitamin C), and eat you some soup. Hopefully you won't be down for long. I hope you feel better soon. Have a great day, or as great as you can.

well, if you're the boss, and they can go unsupervised and you dont think you can make it then go home. If you dont think you can make it and they cannot be unsupervised then call your boss. If you have to stay explain to your employees that you are still not 100% and that you need for them to be more self reliant tonight, and that unless they absolutely need you, your off limits...then lay your head down and rest somewhere where they can still find you.

If you actually DO think you are seriously too sick to work, then you should go home. Base it on how sick you are not whether or not people are being inconsiderate or in a bad mood.

If you are the boss, you should be able to make this decision without polling YA.

Be an executive. Decide!

If you can afford it, go home. Get sleep. Go back to work the next time you are scheduled and thank everyone/be gracious no matter what.
