Hi Catherine. I've worked for a great chiropractor for many years. She is also my doctor. The term "bone cracker" often instills fear in people. When a doctor does a chiropractic adjustment, a 'popping' sound is often heard, but that's NOT bones cracking, it's the release of gas built up in the joints! Ever heard someone crack their knuckles? Same principal. Best way to find a good D.C. is to ask around to see whom other people in your area see and like. I would recommend seeing someone who will start off with a full chiropractic exam and by all means, xrays. No other way to know what's going on inside your body. I wouldn't want someone treating me that was just guessing! I have many health concerns, and I'm glad I discovered chiropractic, because it is a good, viable method of pain relief instead of being dependant on pain meds, and perhaps having surgery.

I went in with a friend of mine when her back hurt. This is when these chiropractors first opened there doors in our town, very big town.
There is no way on earth I would ever go see one!
Besides what I saw my Rheumatologist at the time told me never to go to one. For arthritis these people do nothing. It is not logical that they could do anything for arthritis, which is in a persons joints. Sounds like something you may have.
How on earth can these people do anything for inflammation? More times a person pops there joins etc. and even has a history of arthritis in there family it is going to make things worse. There sure are a lot of chiropractors supporters on these boards, I just happen not to be one of them.
So someone with RA to what sounds like a young person go find out if you have a form of arthritis. Then deal with the inflammation etc.
Going to a chiropractor in my eyes is a waste of your money....and may make your health worse....I hurt even thinking about someone pulling and tugging at my joints!!

i swear by my chiropracter. she studied at the palmer institute of chiropractic. she has helped me with everything from a sinus infection, to correcting a slipped disc.when my daughter was young, she had sinus infections every 3 or 4 months, due to a problem when i was birthing her, she was trying to be born neck first instead of head first, the chiropractor was able to realign her neck vertabrea and hasnt had a sinus infection since, and she is now 23 years old. i have sent many people to her. she has helped migrane sufferers to the point where they are able to stop their very strong meds, she has released an impacted colon, helped children stop bed wetting.
a good chiropractor will not touch you without taking xrays, and doing an electro test of each individual vertabrea in your spine to see where the problems are. sometimes, as in the slipped disc, i did have to go three times a week for a while, i started out using a cane to walk into the office, a month later, i did no longer need the cane to walk. other times it was a weekly visit.
your spine, is connecting the nerve impulses to your entire body, so if there is a mis alignment, whatever part of your body is receiving those impulses or messages is going to suffer. this is called a subluxation, and needs to be put back in line.
most adjustments seem very subtle, i have never had one hurt, i have always felt good after an adjustment, in a few hours noticing an improvemnt. sometimes it takes a couple of visits to get you where you need to be.
i go every 4 months for a realignment

If your joints hurt, you should see an MD (medical doctor) to rule out causes like Rheumatoid Arthritis, degenerative cartilage conditions, or congenital birth defects requiring orthopedic surgery, among other reasons.
A good Chiro will refer you to an MD if need be, but I would see the MD first to rule out any serious health conditions. Chiro's work by aligning the spine. They are helpful for injuries and pain.

Look or ask others for a competent Chiro. as in all professions there are good and bad ones. As for your joints always hurting this is not normal. I cannot opine on why your joints hurt on this forum but make sure you are getting 1200mg of calcium daily along with 600IU of vit D. for starters.
