If there is ANY TWO LINES AT ALL She is pregnant.
If this was a more expensive test and you see any 2 lines at all in the window it is positive, this should be satated in the manual.
I bought a test at the dollar store once and the line that would have turned pink was visible but didn't turn pink and I wasn't pregnant but it was a very cheap test.
If she should have her period today then her body might not have a high amount of hormones (HcG) in her bloodstream but if any line appeared, they are still there, not strong, but any traces say she's pregnant. The test is most reliable if she waits until 10 days after her missed period.
Go see a doctor or retest in a few days.
She should always use her first morning pee to take a test because that will carry the highest amount of HcG in it.
A TEST CAN BE FALSELY NEGATIVE BUT NEVER FALSELY POSITIVE

The positive line is really faint. Is this okay? An HPT tells you exactly one thing: your urine either has detectable pregnancy hormone in it, or it doesn't. The darkness or lightness of a line doesn't mean much. Generally speaking, a very light line can mean there is a small amount of hCG in your urine, and a very dark line can mean there is a larger amount of hCG in your urine. This is why you may get a faint positive at 10 DPO but a darker positive at 18 DPO. However, this is not always true. Tests are all different, and even tests in the same box may differ in sensitivity. Comparing light/dark lines will just drive you nuts. If you see a line in the "results" window, you're preg!

Even a light second line is still a line, it's rarely as dark as the test line. Sounds like she is pregnant, but if she retests in a few days you'll see a clearer line on a pregnancy test. Or she can get a blood test which will tell you for sure. But I'm going to say "Congrats!" 'cause it sounds like you're going to have a new baby! (by the way, the hormone is called HcG, you would think a "med student" would know that, lol!)

The first time I took one my second line was also faint, but visible. I called the toll free # on the box and asked what that could mean and was told it was a positive result and it meant I was pregnant.
The second time I took one (the next morning) both lines were equally visible.
A week later, I went to the doctor and tests there confirmed that I was pregnant.
I'd say the chances are practically 100% that you're going to be a daddy -- Congratulations!

The positive line doesn't have to match the other line in intensity, if you have doubts call the number on the box and they will help you with your questions.
There are some test that can detect the pregnancy hormone five days before the missed period, I personally really like First Response, good luck with everything!

If the second line wasn't there yesterday (within 10 minutes of taking the test) then it's probably an evap line and doesn't count.
If the line was there before 10 minutes than it is positive.
She should test again, and do not read the test after 10 minutes have passed.
Good Luck

She is definitely pregnant! Congratulations!! Of course, if you want to double check, the first urination in the morning contains the highest level of hormone that those tests use, so retest in the morning, or even better, buy a pregnancy test that shows the results as "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant". It takes all the confusion out (though it is only a little more expensive.)

I would try another test because that may be a mistest. Tell her to take another one first thing in the morning the very first time she urinates because that is when HgH, the pregnancy hormone is at its highest. However, if that line showed up at all, it means the test may have detected a small amount of pregnancy hormone. Also, try one that has a more definitive answer--like one that is digital and either says pregnant or not.

"A line is a line" as they say...
You and your wife are pregnant! Congratulations!
(But, I've heard that it's normal for women to take more than one test just to "know" this, so if she feels like peeing on a stick again, go get the digital readout test. Since her period was due today, the digitals should be able detect the hCG today or tomorrow, and you'll know when you get the "Pregnant" on the readout!)

Thats a positive result. If it was negative there would be no second line. If the second line is there, even if its light then its a positive. My second line was barley visible and I'm 5 months along! Congratulations papa!
