the GM 14 bolt is way stronger, it is about equivelent to the Dana 70.
the 14 bolt has 3 pinion bearins compared to just 2 on the 60. the ring & pinion is bigger so its stronger, the bearings are bigger,
the axle shafts are thicker. and its easier to setup up gears in then the dana 60.
the only down side to it is its size, weight, & ground clearance.
FYI, a Ford 9" doesnt even compare to strength. its like comparing apples to oranges.
the 14 bolt is a full floating axle (break an axle shaft and you dont lose a wheel) and the Ford 9" is a semi floating axle.

Dana 60 was used on very heavy duty 4WD throughout american auto industry for years ( all the way back to the 60's).
It proved itself as being tougher than its GM counterpart by its widespread use on racetracks. Only the Ford 9-inch can be seen as its equal (or better).
