Well it depends on the installation software. Now if this is a usb external drive , then verify that you have usb 2.0 BEFORE even installing it . Also , verify that the sysboard detect it first and then windows will detect it , for instance if the HD does not appear on the bios then it will NOT appear on windows

how do u connect ur external hard drive 2 ur comp..if ur using usb port then better check if ur usb drivers are installed properly or if u have enabled the usb drive from the bios..u can get usb drivers easily in net or it will b in ur motherboard cd
