Make her a diaper cake! She can get the diapers she needs, and they look cool! There are many designs you can make. Here's one: http://www.babydiapercakes.biz/diaper_cake_recipe.htm.

I love these things. I make one for every baby shower! They are fun, inexpensive, and people LOVE them! Yours will be the most talked-about gift at the party!

you can bet that she will already get tons of clothes--but if you decide to get clothes..be sure to get them in 3-6 or 6-9 months size -babies outgrow clothes TOO FAST it's better to have something the baby can wear a little big for a bit longer.

my top suggestion though is anything for baby's bathtime!!-
hooded towels, washcloths, lotion, baby soap/shampoo.
also baby wont be able to get a real bath until the cord stump falls off-so a box of the huggies disposable washcloths are a perfect idea
something else people tend to overlook when going to a shower are the things for a baby medicine cabinet.
walmart has some nice gift packages full of everything first time parents need to fill a baby medicine cabinet. they also have a handy hospital care kit--filled with a thermometer, nose plunger, baby scissors, nail clippers & a few other things

good luck-I hope you decide something & have fun at the shower!!

oh-edit to add, my baby is due in 2 weeks and for Christmas a friend of mine got us a babys first year calendar--it's so thoughful and perfect for a shower gift--the parents can record every milestone, etc on the calendar.

I would say to avoid clothing (lots of other people will be getting her clothing) so that she has a chance to pick out some clothing for her child--I received all the clothing I would need at my baby shower and was grateful but disappointed that I wouldn't have the fun of shopping for cute girl clothing on my own.

Diapers and diaper wipes are awesome and useful gifts... you could also get her some cute teethers and/or small baby toys, a couple pacifiers (if she is planning on using them), hooded baby towels, a cute diaper bag, bibs, or something the baby will need later on, like feeding spoons and dishes. Its nice to get some things for later because it cuts down on the cost of a baby when things like that are needed.

A DIAPER CAKE!!

An inedbile cake made out of diapers.....filled with lots of useful items for baby and mom!! Sure to be the most talked about gift at the shower....very unexpected and UNIQUE!!!

A diaper cake can be filled with all sorts of useful items....baby blankets, pacifiers, teething toys, carseat toys, plush animals, bath products, diaper cream, baby powder, diaper-bag sized items, clothing items, baby massage kits, rattles, WHATEVER you want!!

(By the way I make custom diaper cakes. Gender-neutral is no problem, either!! Match it to your cousin's favorite animal....the theme of the shower (what was on the invitation), the nursery decor, or jus something YOU happen to like!!!) My diaper cakes also come with a custom gift tag....and a "recipe card" so that mom knows exactly what is in her cake without taking it apart!!!

Good luck and have fun!!!!

We just had a little one not too long ago and I think the best way to go for gifts is buying her 3-6 months clothes. Everyone seems to buy newborn and she will have all kinds at first. Some our little one didn't even get to wear because she had so many and they usually aren't in the newborn stage for long. When it was time to move to the next size we didn't have much and had to go out and buy a lot. There are still many neutral choices to pick from.

Diapers. You can never go wrong with diapers! It is guaranteed to be used. Get her as many diaper packs as you wish and put them all in a carton box and wrap the box!
You can also make her homemade baby wipes to go along with the diapers.
It's very simple to make and she will save a lot of money. You can also attach the recipe to the wipes, so she can make it herself when she runs out.

Homemade Baby Wipes

* 1 cylinder shaped plastic container (you can decorate the container to make it look more fancy and cute looking)
* 1 roll of paper towels
* 2 Cups Boiling Water
* 1 TBSP. Baby Bath
* 1 ½ TBSP. Baby Oil

Cut the roll of paper towels in half (cross wise) with a knife, serrated works best. Remove the card board from the middle. Place your paper towels in the container (cut side down). Mix the baby bath and baby oil with the boiling water. Stir well. Pour the mixture over the paper towels in the container.

First of all, no one thinks of this but you should buy her some stain sticks. I go through more stain stick with my baby, but it helps save clothes, blankets, my own clothes, and stuff like that. Also very helpful is bibs, burp clothes, diapers (but buy bigger sizes which are helpful for when the baby gets bigger like ones, twos, or threes), a box or two of baby wipes (not the containers, the boxes), bigger size clothes that either sex could wear, bottles, formula, coupons for baby items, and maybe a gift certificate to a restaurant that delivers (which is really helpful for nights you don't want to cook).

Get her a scrap book kit. That will work for either a boy or a girl, and it can be great to have for baby when they grow up... like a 2nd edition baby book.

Or, get her a gift certificate and let baby's mom pick out the gift later on!

A crap load of baby wipes! Diapers, baby wipe warmer, bath time gift set, something green or purple or yellow. I know that diapers and baby wipes seem so impersonnal, but they really really come in handy, as do cloth diapers for spit up. I'd buy her some binkies too. Oh and baby matteress pads! There expensive and you need at least 3 of them.

By gender neutral colors as far as clothes---yellow, green, red
And, you can never go wrong with buying diapers, wipes, powder, lotion, bottles, washcloths and onesies (the little undershirts if you don't know what these are.) Also, it's always nice to buy mommy something she can use to help relieve the stress before baby comes, like bath salts or a nice soft robe.
