I’m going to ask this question trying my hardest not to sound racist, or to offend anyone. On television I see a lot of Caucasian females (and some males) tan their skin, inject their lips, and get butt and breast implants. I’m guessing they are trying to look like another race. And people in Hollywood are acting as if this is something new. Black people have always had this look. And I see the exact same thing with my own race. Like colored contacts?!?!? Colored hair, and long weaves. I saw this lady who was black she had long blonde hair (weave) and blue eyes. (contacts) Why? Why do we aspire to be like our counterparts? I have worn weaves before, and I have gotten relaxers and perms. But I do regret it. I wish I loved myself enough to keep my natural curly beautiful hair. I’m not that mad about it now though I made to decision to grow it back out. I understand that some people may find other race’s attribute beautiful, but when you alternate yourself to make you look like something else, shows that you are not comfortable in you own skin. To morph yourself to the point that you’re orange! To buy a sh*tload of cosmetics just to make you look like someone you saw on TV! It just seems crazy to me. And I’m curious is how things got that way, and if anyone feels the same way I do?

And not once in my question I said all people of one race look alike, because they don't. I didn't assume anything, everything I said I made from my own observations I mean I went up the people and asked them myself because I don't assume things...

I don't have a problem with cosmetics, or making yourself look better.I'm just asking when does it become excessive, to the point where you natural identity is lost? And it’s not a race thing I see this in ALL PEOPLE.

My name don’t matter: Big lips, big butts, colored skin, and big breast are something that most girls who are minority have naturally, and it is also something that is being surgically reproduced more and more every year. I’m just putting two and two together. I’m not saying we’re the only ones with these attributes all I’m saying is this phenomenon is a little more than a coincidence. And most black girls are ugly? I’m not even going to go there. And about the black guys and white women thing, I know plenty of white guys who love black women and vise versa. I’m not being cocky, if you read I said it’s something I noticed in all races. I see black girls who go out there way to make themselves look like a different race. I’m trying to make a point, when do we lose ourselves in our quest to beauty? That’s the point of the question… so your answer is harsh for no reason.

yes iagree with you...and the more plastic surgery they have done...the more ridiculous they look..as for breast implants...they have them done for men...sad women arent they...why cant they make a stand for themselves and just be what they are...as for tanning beds...i dont think whit women want to look black..they just want a tan and it clears the skin somewhat...but some get carried away and get skin cancer..all for the sake of vanity..i often wondered also about black women wearing weaves and extentions..i think they look 100% better with there natural looks and hair...its a pity theres too much focus on the fashion magazies...tv personalities ect...women shouls be natural i say..no matter what race/color/culture...just be what you were born to be..and be proud of it

I'm bothered by people who have the misconception that all people of one race all look alike with the same features. Not all white people havee thin lips and pale skin and not all black people have big lips and dark skin. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If one person chooses to alter themselves in any way shape or form doesnt automatically make them any less proud than you are. So please stop assuming that if you see a white lady with full lips, that they arent natural. Please stop assuming If you see an african american with long flowing hair, its not natural. And actually i own a sh*tload of cosmetics.....Most people do things to ENHANCE their beauty, not hide themselves. I think you are being very self-righteous and condescending to make such judgments.

This is one of the best questions I have seen. Its seems that everyone wants to be opposite of themselves. (white/black) (tan/pale) (skinny/fat) (curvy/thin) (short hair/long hair) (natural/plastic) etc. etc.
For me, I believe in four reasons why people would try to change themselves.
A.) They are not confident with their natural bodies
B.) They just like some change/variety
C.) To fit in whatever crowd they want to be in
D.) Because they believe their bodies do not reflect their personalities. They also might believe that its unfair that they do not get to pick what they look like to begin with.
So, I do think that people should embrace themselves, but I would contradict myself in saying so. In the end, I say do whatever makes you feel better, but remember what you're doing, where you come from, and who you are.

I agree with you on many points. I too have decided to go natural. Many ask why bother. I have a loooot of hair and it's very curly! Some ask me, "Why don't you perm it?" It's my hair and that's the way it is. I can't change a thing about that. I guess we will always have people trying to fit in and in the end call it fashion and expression of oneself.

Personally, i am considering breast implants...not because of Hollywood, or how anyone else looks like...i am considering them because after breast feeding a baby for a long time my breasts changed and i want them back the way they were...perhaps there is more than one reason people do things...

I hear you and I'm with you on this.
Everything about Hollywood/celebs follow formulaes and there's nothing we can do.
This silliness on the public's part (dark skin with blonde hair and blue eyes are definitely NOT natural) is well... I shouldn't say it's silliness but it's their body, and whatever they want to do with themselves, let them be.
People "conform" and there's nothing we can do.

umm.... 1st of all no one is trying to look like black girls some of them are beautiful but most black girls are ugly (why do u think so many black guys date white girls and not the other way around). you sound cocky like ur trying to say white people are trying to be black not just attractive which is the only reason my answer is slightly harsh.

people just try to look attractive to other people, I don't think race matters, if the can afford it so be it. some of us look good just the way we are, some people are looking to attract other kinds of people and that just it "people"...of that style
