There's really no such thing as caring too much... but there is such a thing as being obsessive... which was more likely the problem. I have stopped hanging with people in the past because they started acting like they "owned" me, or had some comment to make about everything I did that didn't involve them, or whined when they weren't included in my every activity... it gets tired fast. Is it possible that you were doing one or more of those things? It might be good to examine what went on in the frindship. It might help you get that one back or make new ones in the future.

There is a fine line between caring and being intrusive. I suspect in your caring mode you overstepped the other person's boundaries of privacy. Also if someone does something they are ashamed, they may try to erase all connections with it, including the person they confided in. Embarassed is another thought.

I assume that was the case. I can be intense in my relationships (not possessive, but passionate) and I think people (women, not men interestingly enough) get sick of it. I felt I was really getting close to a friend when she decided to ignore me and never talk to me again. I don't get it other than she doesn't want to get close to me. I guess we pick the wrong people for close friends!
