hmmm well you left out a few details.. is this a new installation and if so what kind of computer?I had a computer that was up to date on everything.I built it myself. All the hardware was compatible and even loaded it on another machine..No worries..then I would get past the hardware check and then it wouldn't load ..i worked and worked and worked on it I couldn't understand it.. I was working for a computer company and had my boss help me..he couldnt do it either. He is not one to give up and but after 56 hours of trying to load it .. and failure he did..I finally disconnected everybit of hardware piece by piece and reconnected it.. I tried it without critical hardware and with it.. It finally came to the video card and i asked my boss if he had one I could use it was the same kind I had..Guess what ..it loaded..He said it would never work after loading.. I replaced my video card with the same one that came out of it.. after he took his out and it did work..The problem was that xp is so smart it recognized the fact that the video card was working but there was spur on the edge that didn't give the correct electrical reading although the card worked.. it was connected like xp wanted it to but after loading it didn't care.I suspect there is some piece of hardware that xp doesn't like and wont load until you replace it or maybe the system is not updated hardware wise for you to use xp.. its worth a shot.. check it out. see if it loads ok on another system if it does its your hardware.Try taking things out of subbing them with another part piece by piece and it should work after the process of elimination

Get yourself a copy of the old win98 boot disk. You can get it free from the website below. Then start your computer using that. Its gonna tell you that your hard drive isnt properly formatted because they didnt have ntfs file system back in the good old days. Go ahead and run fdisk and then format your drive to FAT16 or FAT32. After that run your windows XP and reformat your drive to ntfs. That works for me sometimes. Or you may have knoked something loose while hooking up your drive. Good Luck!

Your HDD may be going bad, try testing it with a surface scanner in another working computer. Other then that, delete the partition and do a full format of the drive when you go to reinstall it again.

Whoa, I think you damaged one of the PC's parts while connecting the cable. The components are very delicate, and I'm afraid you've entirely ruined your computer just for not handling the parts carefully. No other solution than to get a new PC or build another one, my friend.

Well all you needed to do was a windows repair from the recovery consol. It sounds like it's too late for that now. You need to format you hard drive and reinstall windows fresh.
