Computer Aided Design. Drafting is an old term for mechanical drawing...making "blueprints" for architecture or machine parts. It is called technical drawing or engineering drawing also. Drafting was taught in schools by applying pencil or ink to paper, vellum or mylar film for years. After 1980 or so, the computer was found to be an excellent way to do these drawings. I used it for years.

Blueprints and such used to be drawn with rulers and compasses and such. The people who did this were Draftsmen (or women) and the area they drew on was a Draftsboard.

Nowadays, people use Computer Automated Design, or CAD software to draw blueprints.

And lo, there was rejoicing among the architects with bad backs
