My boyfriend is 19 and he uses dipping tobacco not chewing. He also smokes quite often. I am trying to get him to stop, but so far nothing works. Anyone have some good ideas? Also, a friend told me he can give me gum disease. Is that true... can kissing him harm me in anyway?

First of all, stop trying to reform him. He knows the dangers of smoking, so it's up to him to decide whether he wants to quit or not. Just stay off his case about this. No amount of pleading, nagging, moaning, bitching can make another person do what you want him/her to do. That's the way it is in life. If he wants to stop using nicotine, he will stop of his own accord.

Kissing him should not cause you any harm. I have never heard of a person getting gum disease from a smoker. Don't believe what "friends" say without finding out where they got the information from in the first place.

Chew can cause mouth cancer and a whole bunch of problems not to mention smoking is the same way. I was in paramedic class and we were learning about emphysema which is what you can get from smoking. They told us it was like taking a deep breath in and then trying to breath normal with that deep breath in. Day in and day out. Its almost impossible. That got a few people in class to stop. I dont think that you are at risk for anything.

Yes, he can get gum disease. He can get cancer in his mouth. Yes, you're at risk, just as you would be from second-hand smoke, except you're at risk of mouth cancers and possibly breast cancer (if you follow me on this.) Women's whose partners smoke are at increased risk of breast cancer, so this follows with that.
