Recently single. Can use washing machine and the likes but need help on the finer points of house chores. A lot of cotton and cotton blend shirts these days come with labels that say "DO NOT BLEACH". Anyone out there got a good method for getting shirts white.

Use the "bleach alternative" in the bleach/detergent aisle.

Works great!
Or you can just use a very small amount of blach and always use hot water, unless you are afraid it will shrink a lot.

Buy a spray for the cuffs and collars something like 'vanish' or 'shout'. Spray before you put it in the machine and put it in a hot wash. It might shrink a tiny bit if it's cotton but it comes out really white.

I like to add Calgon water softener to my whites. Also I occasionally add a few drops of Mrs. Stewart's bluing. Hanging them in the sunshine on a bright sunny day helps also. Never wash anything with color with your whites to keep them as bright as possible. Bleach tends to make whites have a yellowish cast, so definitely stay away from bleach unless you are washing bed linens and towels.

normally with your typical whites(socks, underwear, undershits) use hot water and bleaching alternative.

i hate those pit sweat stains that you get on white clothes and other clothes too. to get those out soak the shirt in a little vingar and baking soda. rinse well, dry as normal. remember to test this on a small area first.

Use warm water, color safe bleach, and 1/2 cup of baking soda. Baking soda gets whites white, brightens colors, and removes any odors. Make sure you are separating your whites and your colors.
