Most optical mouses (not mice) have a power saver setting built in. It may take looking into the mouse's settings on the control panel. If there is no power saving setting or its not automatic, you may have to pull the batteries at night. They CANT run down if they aren't in the mouse.

Turning off the wireless mouse itself in the computer via device manager will not save batteries. The only thing available is to remove the batteries.

If yours is somehow an exception to the rule just remove the batteries or better yet use rechargeables....

....the only reason most manufacturers don't recommend using them (in the manual) is because of their agreements with Duracell & Eveready (believe it or not). If you can use them in a $600 digital camera then why not in a $20 mouse ?

If it's a Mac mouse, there's a sliding cap on the bottom that you close to save the battery life. If it's not a Mac mouse, buy a Mac computer. They come with a mouse.

It does it on its own, after it hasn't been used in a while it shuts off. It pops back on the minute it senses motion.
