In foreign counties- outside the US, Rohipinol is often used. It has been labeled the 'Date Rape" drug here in the US because it usually render the "victim" "comatose" and they forget what happened before, during and after.
I think it is similar to Valium and Xanax, but many X more potent.
There are probably many types of drugs that could be given before surgery- to calm the patient, depending on doctors preference, availability, patients condition and tolerance, weight, etc.
The Rohipnol and the GHB are predominantly depressing drugs of the central nervous system. Because they do not have color generally, flavor nor scent, these substances can be added to drinks in such a way that the people who consume them do not detect their presence.

These substances arose few years ago like drugs "to facilitate sexual assaults". * Due to the preoccupation by its abuse, in October of 1996 the Congress approved the "Law for the Prevention and Penalty of the Sexual Abuse Facilitated by Drugs". This legislation it increased the federal sanctions by the use of any substance controlled like aid in the execution of a sexual assault.

The Rohipnol
The Rohipnol (commercial name of flunitracepam) belongs to a drug class known like benzodiacepinas. The Rohipnol can incapacitate its victims, disabling them to resist the sexual aggression. It can produce a "anterógrada amnesia", which means that it is possible that the people do not remember what it happened to them while they were under the effects of the drug. The Rohipnol also can be lethal when it mixes with the alcohol or other depressing of the central nervous system.

The use of the Rohipnol is not approved in the United States and its import to the country is prohibited. The illicit use of the Rohipnol began to arise in the United States at the beginning of years 90, when it began to know like "rocha", "Mexican valium" and "pill of the forgetfulness" in Spanish and like "rophies", "roofies", "roach" and "rope" in English.

The abuse of other two similar drugs seems to have replaced the abuse of the Rohipnol in some regions of the country. These are clonacepam, that is sold in the United States like Klonopín and Mexico like Rivotril, and alprazolam, commercialized like Xanax.

Depends on the country. In many countries, it is Valium, either 10 mg in pill form, or sometimes in your IV if you have one.

There isn't just one answer. Sometimes, they give benadryl to reduce sinus drainage and prevent some of the nausea. Sometimes, they give a tranquilizer such as Valium. It really depends on what your doctor orders.
