I've been looking for a pickup in the $8,000 range to last me the next several years. I've always been a chevy fan, and i know they are good trucks, but today i found a really nice dodge for a good price. I really like it because it seems to sit higher than the comparable chevy. it just seems bigger all around. I'm comparing these two: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9 liter, automatic trans., ext. cab, shortbed 4x4. Color: black w/ tinted windows, very nice.
1999 Chevy 1500: all the same features, except with the 5.7 of course. both are the same price. which would you choose and why?

Well I would get the Dodge as they are better trucks then Chevy. If you watch on the road you will see more Dodge trucks then Chevy.I have a dodge which I traded a Chevy to get the dodge. I have took this Dodge places where the Chevy would not go and it rides so much better. The Dodge has so much more power and I have not done anything to the motor yet. It has a 5.9 liter motor and will go on forever. It now has over a hundred thousand miles on it and runs like it did when it was new. I am soon going to build the motor so it will have even more power so I can enter it in off road rallys.

As far as older trucks, it really doesn't matter. Newer trucks are a different case. Ford has gone with cheaper materials in order to reduce cost at the risk of going bankrupt. Chevy and GMC are the same thing, with a few differences in quality. I have a chevy suburban, chevy taho and gmc yukon. The yukon has by far the best interior of the 3. If you're looking for power, find a pre-1998 chevy or gmc pickup. The pre-98 350 ci was the true 350hp and 350 torque. In 98 they changed their motors and now have something like 280 hp. Dodge has always been a powerhouse as well, especially with their hemi motors. The hemi motor runs differently with the valves so it supplies a lot more power.

I had a 2000 Dodge 1500 short bed small block V8.. It drove great but it would only get 10-12 mpg no matter where I drove it .. city or highway. My friends 96 Chevy gets 14+ in town and sometimes 20 on the highway if he keeps it below 65. I would lean toward the Chevy with maybe $3.00 gas coming back someday.

i own a repair shop, and i can tell you right now between the two that you found the dodge is the better deal, the newer dodges are a lot better truck than the Chevy's are ,,i do a lot of work ,and i see a lot of dodges around here in Tennessee, and there holding up real well, they also offer more power,,more hauling room,,and better reliability than the Chevy does right now, and they look better ,,i go by looks a little, but as you can see from my logo,,I'm a dodge fan,,always have been, and even more now than ever,,there finally building a better truck than Chevy is,i think you,d like the dodge though,,go drive it,,you,ll see the difference in the two,,good luck hope this help,s.

Chevy, I have only ever driven Chevy's since I was 16. We bought a Dodge last year, and kept it only 6 months before we traded for a Chevy. It did seem bigger, but it was sluggish always in a way, and just did not seem to handle and ride as well as any of our Chevy's have.
Good Luck

I'd go with the Dodge for a change. Sounds like you need a little push. Probably already got it in the drive by the time you read this, huh? Never heard anything bad about a Dodge! The 2 are so comparable, as you stated. Good Luck!! @8=)

We have had a Dodge V8 Magnum and a Chevy. We had hell with that Dodge. Everything went wrong. Yes, it was taller and bigger inside but always in the shop. Stick with the Chevy.
