I drink coffee daily to go to the bathroom. Is it it better or worse to use a fleet-type enema?

The reflex that he was referring to is called a gastrocolic reflex and is is only a small part of the stimulant effect that coffee has on the GI tract. Regardless, an enema is designed to flush your rectum by hydrating the stool. This is normally done by the large colon as it reabsorbs water from the feces, but if you are not adequately hydrated, then the colon absorbs too much water and as a result, you have constipation. The enema rehydrates this stool and causes a bowel movement, but the cost is that it shifts some of the fluid out of your colon and as a result you become further dehydrated. A much safer way would be to increase the water intake to 64 ounces daily (minimum) and drink the coffee as you please. The enema was only meant as an emergency measure, and should be used sparingly if at all

It is easier on your system to have the coffee. What actually happens is called a gastro... reflex I can't remember the end of the gastro word, but when you stimulate yourself by drinking the coffee it works a reflex to cause a bowel movement. You might check it out by drinking a coke or dr pepper at the same time you have coffee and see if you have the same result.

You should only use an enema as last resort. The anus was meant to be an exit only and sticking things up there on a daily basis is not healthy.
