"New Moon" is the sequel to "Twilight," and so a lot of the storyline carries over.

Bella is in love with Edward and wants him to turn her into a vampire so they can be together for all eternity (and so she won't seem so fragile and weak, comparatively).

Edward, fearing for Bella's immortal soul, refuses.

Edward decides that life would be better for Bella if he and his family weren't around, so he leaves. (Edward needs a bit of a kick in the pants sometimes...)

Bella plunges into depression.

Bella decides to do reckless things to prove she's not listening to Edward's caution about being careful.

Bella begins hanging out with Jacob Black and they form a very tight friendship, although Jacob wants more.

Jacob turns out to be a werewolf.

The mate of the vampire Edward's brothers killed at the end of "Twilight" (b/c he was about to kill Bella) is back in Forks, looking for Bella.

Jacob and the other werewolves are trying to protect Bella and get rid of the vampire chick (Victoria?).

Bella tries cliff-diving and Alice (Edward's psychic sister) sees her jumping off a cliff and assumes she (Bella) killed herself.

Alice goes to Forks to help Charlie (Bella's dad) and finds Bella still alive, having been rescued from the water by Jacob.

Unfortunately, Edward is told Bella is dead by Rosalie and then when he calls to confirm this fact, Jacob tells Edward (thinking he is talking to Carlisle) that Charlie is at a funeral (actually a friend's funeral, not his daughter's).

Edward goes to Italy to piss off some big Italian vampire family so they'll kill him.

Bella and Alice go and keep Edward from doing the stupid thing that would get him killed.

The Vampire family wants to kill Bella b/c she knows too much about vampires - but they won't if Edward makes her a vampire. Edward won't do it, but Alice promises to if Edward won't.

They all go back to Forks.

Edward and Jacob get into a bit of a snit over Bella and Jacob can't be friends with her anymore b/c she wants to be a vampire.
