Why did George Lucas decide to start with the fourth one until sixth and then the first three? Why did he decide to take a long time to start the 1st one after the 6th one?

I remember him saying that he started with episode 4 because it seemed the most exciting (and probably the most thought out) at the time. As for the length of time between 6 and 1, I think he just needed a break, and then eventually became excited about doing them because of the new CG technology. And, I think he knew that doing the prequels would generate money for Skywalker Ranch and new technology development.

Basically what he did was write the Star Wars story about Luke, Leia, and their fight against the Empire, and Darth Vader.

In order to fill out the characters, he wrote a very rough prequel, explaining the Clone Wars, how Darth Vader came to be, and the Rise of the Empire. All it did was give a bit of history to the characters. This is the same as Tolkien writing about the first and second ages of Middle Earth, it makes it feel more real.

One thing that Lucas must hate about Star Wars, is TIME. He took nearly ten years to make Episodes 4-6. Now going back to make E1-3, it took another ten. Twenty years of Lucas's life has been devoted to Star Wars. Harsh.... no?

So:
1.) He needed a break in-between. After ten years, would you want to start into the next movies right away?

2.) Gave him some time to write the script, and gather some money to make the next ones.

3.) CGI technology has advanced a long ways since the end of Return of the Jedi, and he needed it to in order to do the scenes that he wanted.

There wasn't an intention to have more than one movie. Originally it wasn't Episode 4, it wasn't even called "Star Wars" it was called "The Star Wars."

They didn't get Episode titles until 1997 when they were re-released.

It was only after it made so much money that he decided to make more.

They were not called Episodes 4 5 or 6 until he start planning the prequels.

The only reason there was an Episode 1 was because Lucas went on to do other things that didn't do so well, and he went back to what he knew worked for him.

george lucas didnt even plan on making more than episode 1(or 4,depending on how you look at it) But when the sequel turned out to be a hit, he decided to keep going, and then made the prequels, so that's why 4-6 were out first, then 1-3.

Money. If he made the last three first and made them really good, everyone would really really want to see the first three.

I'm not sure about the delay between 6 and 1 though, probally to increase the demand as well.
