Definitely bothers me less than "your" for "you're" or "there" for "their". I mind less if someone is not a native speaker but when an English speaker's syntax and spelling has degenerated into pidgin, then we have a real problem.

Yes, it irks me when I see misspellings all over the place--but not only here--everywhere. More than irking me, I feel downright frightened for the future of English communication. People have always misspelled words, but over the last thirty years or so, the misspellings have increased so much that I am puzzled by the reasons for this to happen. Maybe it is too easy to say people don't care how they look when they write poorly, or schools don't bother to teach, or teachers don't know or don't value the written word any more, or it's because people don't read as much. I wish I knew.
There is a wonderful book out on this very subject--and contrary to what anyone who has not heard of this book might think--it's really funny AND EDUCATIONAL.
The book is 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves', by Lynne Truss. For those who don't know, the title is taken from a sign Lynne Truss saw about pandas. One pesky little comma changes the whole thing. Every school in the English-speaking world should make this book mandatory reading. One big plus would be that students would actually enjoy it.

Actually it's frightening that correct spelling seems to be almost non-existent for many posters. Is it because of the IM?? and the corruption and compacting of words for speed of communication? There is no doubt in my mind that it will not be long before all words will be compacted and correct spelling will be unnecessary and a thing of the past. That will be a sad day indeed. But perhaps it is overdue? I do not know.

Well I guess there are people out there whose job scope everyday is facing numbers or require social skills more than writing up reports or compiling them. Have some sympathy. Just give it an example if you were to stop doing topics with regards to high school chemistry, and now that you are in the working industry doing business, will you still know how to do chemical atomic calculations?

I notice it, of course, but it doesn't bother me all that much. Some people simply can't spell, or can't be bothered to spell correctly.
What really gets up my nose, though, is people who end a sentence with the word 'at'. "Do you know where Bob's at?" or "Show me where it's at." Why do people do that? It's not necessary.
Spelling doesn't bother me, but ending a sentence in a preposition does. In the grand scheme of things, it's pretty pointless to get your underwear all in a twist over it though, don't you think? With so many other larger issues to worry about, it really doesn't make a lot of sense to get all stressed about something so minor. That's what I keep reminding myself, anyway.

I hate it when people don't know how to spell!!! I'm always the person people go to when they don't know how to spell a word. Usually I dont even know but then I think about it for like half a second. For example, my friend asked how to spell aversion, and it's not that hard. it's a + version!!! you know?
