I watch the Foodnetwork(if I'm at my daughter's), or the DYI, or HG channel. I read a book and make myself some hot tea. If all else fails I take a nap. Sometimes I will remember having a dream which will get me started on something.I generally don't have much problem with creativity, though. Answering questions for Yahoo Answers helps too.

I am getting back to old poetry, and have borrowed a copy of poems by Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barret Browning. Lovely metaphor and rhythm intertwined into real stories and observations. Old poets had more emotion and vision. Try reading Shelley's 'Prometheus Unbound' or Lord Byron's 'Belle dame sans Merci'.

I like to paint but am not that good at it. I prefer pen-and-ink drawings, watercolour and drawing. I like edgy art and enjoy heavy metal art covers, Gothic art, Van Gogh, Munch, Pollock, etc. I also like cartoons and pop art. I am starting to warm up to cubism, but still hold Matisse up as the better artist. There was an old feud between Picasso and Matisse that really shook up the art world.

I love people-watching. It's like bird watching, but with humans. We come in so many exciting varieties. Whenever I hit a block, I just go to the mall or anywhere there are a lot of people. If you want to think about narratives or stories, just look at people and imagine what they love, belive in and do in their spare time. Sometimes it will be as goofy as "Big-ol' Jim-bob over there loves nothing more than his dog, belives in The Bear's defensive linebacker, and enjoys the power and glory of a nice bucket of wings." What makes it even better is that even if you're initially grossed-out by "Big-ol'-Jim-bob," force yourself to find something interesting or even beautiful about him. In the split second he passes by you in the mall, maybe you notice the weird way the mole on his cheek grows two hairs. Go to the food court, sit down at a table, and try to draw that mole exactly the way it looked when you first saw it. I know this sounds goofy, but a teacher about 10 years ago proposed this method of people watching to me. Just come up with stories, draw imperfections, and you'll never be bored.

I found that using a "frame" works really well for me. I can doodle on an 8.5 x 11 sheet for hours and get nothing, but if I work on a small sticker or a found object or something, it's much easier to produce something nice. I guess the feeling of completing something (even if it's just filling in a predetermined shape) is easier for me to tackle than starting something from scratch.

I go to an art gallery, art museum, or artist reception.
a walk in the woods or park
watch children at play...they are a great inspiration...kids being kids, being themselves, what fun.
Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, just to name some of the music i find inspiring...Pink Floyd rules, too. (and the Eagles) (Lowreena McKinnit).
sometimes going out for supper with my friends gives a spark to my creative juices.
our grandchildren...they are hams and artists and wonderful (little?) people who inspire me to do artwork everytime i see them. (we have 11: ages 2 months to 15 years)
