When America joined the war, the stalemate in the French theater would have turned the tides of battle, and the Eastern Front weakened Germany and split their forces, so Germany agreed to a cease-fire. At times, there were so many dead in the fields during the war that the sides had to quit fighting just to get rid of all the bodies. The diseases would have killed more people than the bullets. Bullets kill one person - disease kills hundreds.
