I'm looking for a graphing calculator that I will be able to use as I continue math through college.

What kind would you recommend for topics that cover:
polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions; matrices; conics; sequences and series; mathematical induction; descriptive statistics; linear regression & correlation; probability; sampling distributions; hypothesis testing and confidence intervals

Would Ti-83 Plus be able to suit these needs?

i got by in college just fine with ti - 83 plus and i just graduated last year. i was a math major even! you should be fine with ti-83 plus. I found more people knew more about ti-83s anyhow. Any other calculator if they couldnt figure out how to perform that operation they told you look it up in ur hand book.

I would highly recommend the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition because it has most, maybe, all of the functions that you listed. The Ti-83 Plus is cheaper, but it comes with only a handful of applications, the very basic applications. Besides, it only costs around 30 to 40 more dollars and you get much more memory and applications than the TI-83 Plus. The TI-84 Silver is your best bet.

Hi, i am a college mathematics major, and ive basically completed my math degree and several grad courses...i only say this to show that i know what im talking about...

a TI 83 plus will be more than enough for your needs.

some will tell you to get a TI 89...many college professors will tell you that they will not allow that calculator. a TI 84 will also be a great calculator.

i would avoid the other brands, not because they are inferior (but i think they are) but if you have issues or are unsure of how to do certain operations, professors and other students will be unable to help you because they are unfamiliar with the brand

hope ive helped

An 83-Plus is good, but an 84-Plus silver would be much better. The apps are much better with the 84-plus. It will cost you more money but it is worth the hours of time it will save you. Try to find a used one for a discout on Ebay or craigslist! Happy shopping!!!

I don't know what you plan to study in college, however I was an engineering major and hardly used my graphing calculator for higher math. I mainly used it for basic calculations. Any more complicated, we used math programs on our computers such as Maple, MathCad, or Mathmatica

Yes, I'm pretty sure it will do all those functions and more. Check the manual it should have a list of all working functions.
