If you say "no", why would you wish it upon those of another nation? That isn't very "liberal" of you, is it?

As a matter of fact, I am so liberal that I believe we need to let them decide! Most of the civilians want us out anyway.
Also, why do repubs say we would be bringing the fight to America if we left Iraq? Are they implying that our Intelligence is too incompetent to intercept attacks against the homeland? But they always talk about the great homeland security provided in domestic ways. DOUBLE STANDARD! Typical of repubs.

Democracy is sometimes called the "government of the people" because it has the strongest ties to the people out of any other systems. Democracratic government (the system, not the party), only works if it represents ideals and values alive in the people. Most revolutions fail because the people as a whole did not provide the necessary overwhelming support.

The American colonists desired and valued a democractic system of government enough to risk their lives on an unprecedented scale in a united effort; the Iraqis have yet to reach that point. While calls for democracy abound, the people as a whole have yet to embrace the concept.

Until the people of Iraq are willing to rally around the idea of self-government, any attempts to instate one will fail. Democracy is government by the people; without the people's support, it cannot work.

wish it upon another nation? i think you are confusing the word "liberal" with "religious Right" that wants to make a religious theocracy here at home.

if you don't think so, maybe you should take a look at the laws Iran has recently put in place. they are the same ones, that the religious right want here in America!

No. I wouldn't enjoy living that way. I don't wish that upon anyone. If someone fell off a building I wouldn't jump to my death after them to "save" them. That doesn't make me un "liberal". . that was a stupid question.

Wow, the old either/or fallacy argument. So, then is your stance that the U.S. should just invade at will into any country it feels like and make them live exactly how some people want them to live? I think we should respect the sovereignty of other nations, not force them to do whatever U.S. policy makers tell them to do at gunpoint.

because i consider myself liberal, does that mean you think i hate all iranians? i've lived there and found them very warm and hospitable people. just like in this country, just because the leader is a dick and a puppet of the religious right, doesn't mean all their people are bad.
i remind you of what benjamin franklin stated so succinctly:
"he who gives up his freedoms for security deserve neither"

Are you saying we invaded Iraq to save it from Iran? Is that a new neo-con delusion? It gets dumber and dumber.

No I wouldn't but my ancestors had civil wars and revolutions and FOUGHT for their own freedom. Iraq needs to fight for its own way of life.

Because this is America, not Iran. Their citizens can decide what they want, but I understand how difficult democracy is for you to understand.
