Well, that is so very selfish of you. Yes, in the end we all do die. But try looking past your own nose and think of others. If others can benefit from you effort and skill, that will live on long after you're gone. Everyone has some value in this world. Maybe you haven't found yours yet, but don't let death be the fact that ultimately defines you. Let your accomplishments live on in your family, your friends and the people whose lives you have touched.

Live your life and quit reading Kafka.
What we know is our body will be food for worms...but don't disregard the soul. Just because you don't KNOW for sure what happens to it, doesn't mean nothing happens. It's an adventure.
As for the "trite" thing, go watch "It's a Wonderful Life."
You don't have to have a TV show, be successful at work, or have a grand inventions to be relevant to other people. You have an effect. Quit whining and live boldly.

I used to feel like that until I almost got hit. It was about four in the morning. I had something to take care of downtown so I got up early to make sure I had enough time. When I came out of the house the first thing I noticed was how cold it was. It was also pretty windy. Well anyway, I pull the car out of the garage and pull up next to the house. I go back in to grab my gloves and hat. I come out and the wind takes my hat right off of my head. I turn to retrieve my Fedora and that is when it happens BOOM. Then another, BOOM, and several more BOOM BOOM BOOM etc. My front door shatters, I fall to the ground. All the while grass and dirt are flying all over the place. And then it is over. I dust myself off, pick up my hat, get in my car, go handle my business. I learned two things that cold windy morning, life is fantastic, and bullets sound like large insects when the pass within an inch of you ear.

SETI's been poking around the sky for years without hearing a peep from any other intelligence, so you're part of a pretty damn rare if not unique phenomenon. Be proud and don't waste your opportunity to shine in this universe, even if it's brief.

Read the bible and go find a local bible believing church, look at John 14:6, what you are saying was all said in the book of Ecclesiastes, in the end everything is meaningless!!! Read that book, it's exactly what you are asking

You are now asking yourself what you are living for. Next, ask yourself this question: What is it that you are willing to die for?
If you can't answer either question you're in trouble.
What I've always found curious is that Ayn Rand's character, Mr. I live for myself only, John Galt, was willing to die for a cause. I think instinctively, every man knows that there is always something more valuable to him than his own life.

How about trying to help people less fortunate than yourself? You could volunteer to feed the homeless. You could help someone learn to read. You could work in an after-school program for kids whose parents have to work late and lend them an ear (so to speak). Giving to others will make your life more fulfilled (and you will feel happier by doing so).
Best wishes!

Here is your homework assignment:
Find a young child who is feeling blue and give him/her a big hug and say "I love you" to the little blue child.
Look into the big saucer eyes when the child looks up at you.
That is where your work is going.
You won't be asking this question again for a long long time. :)
