If it's practical for the dog (i.e. keeps them warm) sounds like a good idea. It is pretty cute on Xmas, Holloween or Easter. But if someone does it all the time you have to worry for the dog a bit. The person needs to make sure that they still realize their dog IS A DOG and not a person. As long as they treat the dog like a dog in all other ways then I think it can still be ok.

I think they are looking for something to nurture. I think that sometimes it is appropriate to dress your pet say at Halloween time if they are part of your costume and if you have a small breed dog that is going outside where it is extremely cold and it will hurt them, other than that let the poor thing be a dog, cat, etc!

I think that question is harder to answer now that I own a Chinese Crested Hairless. I used to think they were a little messed up and were trying to fullfill some type of mothering need, now I have a bald dog and live in a area that gets cold in winter and he needs to be dressed. I used to actually get embarrassed while walking him in his prissy (all little dogs clothes are prissy) little clothes, but truth be told I am starting to enjoy it. don't tell anyone though. He does really look cute in his faux leather jacket and I can use the excuse that he needs it to keep warm. It's kind of like dressing up a baby, who doesn't love that?

Depends on why they do it. My dogs have very little hair and get extremely cold, so they both wear sweaters in winter. They are a Greyhound with no hair on her entire chest and belly area, and only 1/4 inch long hair on the rest of her, and a Chinese Crested mix with short, thin fur. The Greyhound is a large dog and her jackets look more like a horse coat. The little mix wears sweaters. I try to make them as neutral as possible, not goofy looking stuff.

There are folks that take it too far for me, though!

They love their pets and keeping them warm if it is cold outside. But, I think mostly because the pet is too cute dressed.

Those people are usually the people who are rich and like to spoil their pets and want to show them off.

All though, one of my teachers last year does that. She loves her dogs tho.

Sometimes, people just want their pets to be human like. Maybe, because they are lonely. My friend does that. She lives alone, only with her dog, and she dresses her dog and talks to him. A little scary, but normal.

It is better than neglect, however I think it is stupid for people to cut their dogs coat, them put clothes on instead, justifying this by saying 'but he'll get cold'. If they had just left well alone then the dog wouldn't be cold now would he?
Obviously there are some breeds of cats and dogs that do need clothes, as they do not have fur. This I understand.

i think it is absolutely absurd!!
i seriously believe they are just trying to replace a child, and if they are just rich and famous with children then it is purely because they are running out of things to do with there money,,
my daughter dressed up my dog once and thought she looked really cute my little dog max would not move and i don't care what anybody says dogs are intelligent animals and no when they are being laughed at and simply feel humiliated.

Well some people think it's weird and some people think it's cute but don't you think it would be very uncomfortable for your pet

They really do need something better to do.On Halloween, or a bow at Christmas, even a coat for short haired and small breeds is alright in the winter cold.
But if the twits are actually making a fashion statement with their dogs then I gotta say "they not only need a life but they have to get their priorities straight!"
