Well I just wanted to know. I am 40 weeks pregnant and I am hoping that I do not have to get my water to break my a doctor because I dont know what to expect. My Due Date is January 10!!! I have also been staying up late this month and wanting to eat less. Having my baby girl in my stomach is no joke. Especially caring her for 9months!

It doesnt hurt and if they dont tell you you won't know with both of my kids i was induced and they broke my water when they checked me and they told me and show me the little plastic stick that looked like a crochet needle that they broke it with and if you have a good epidural if you are getting one you wont have many problems with the strong contractions that come afterwards either.

Good luck and i hope it happens for you soon

I had a premature delivery, and the OB broke my water to hasten things along. I didn't feel discomfort at all. I was lying on my back in the hospital bed, and I just kind of felt a gush of water. They had put an absorbent pad underneath me, but I still felt like I had peed all over the place. I got an epidural immediately afterward so I didn't feel the contractions, but I have heard from several people that the contractions become much more intense after your water is broken.

the only thing that was painful was the Obs fingers digging into my flesh on the outside. The actual amniotic sac breaking was not painful at all. The contractions got 10x worse after it was done though, so beware of that. If you're planning an epidural it's best to get it done before.

I have had my water broken twice. The first time was no big deal, but the second was awful! The nurse told me it was because the baby was in a weird position and because the doctor on call had small hands! If anyone other than your doc breaks your water check for small hands!!!
Good Luck

when they break your bag of waters they use a tool that is thinner than a pencil and looks like a crochet hook. the bag of waters has no nerves in it, it feels like you peed yourself but you have no control to stop it. usually after you water has been broken you contractions become very intense, thats what hurts.

Having your water broken is no more painful than having a pap smear done.
Don't worry, you will be happy to have it done if it makes your baby come faster. Good luck to you.

No it doesn't hurt...it's just like popping a balloon of water...you don't feel pain, you just feel wet! At least that was my experience anyways!
