Society is a group of individuals that come together to reach common goals.
Governments are the means by which some societies maintain civil order and well "govern" their society.
You should probably look up Social Contract theory. Locke's version is the most accepted in contemporary times.

society would be a group of people that interact, plan and discuss things. A group of people meaning any size. Government is assumed to have a leader and would have a structure in how it operates.

a government is a land watched over a few many people. a society is just a place where pplz live. it can be watched over a couple few or can have its land governed by everyone
