Is that normal? He's two years old. When I got him a few months ago he moved around a lot and was always climbing up onto his log to "sunbathe". Yesterday, he sat in his water bowl all day. Today when I finally moved him to clean his bowl, he just kinda sat down where I put him and hasn't moved since. It's been around 10 hours. I'm really worried. Does anyone know if this is typical behavior?

Yes, he ate two pinkies yesterday, just before climbing into his bowl. And I don't think he's cold as it's 88 degrees in there.

They typically arent very active. However, if this is unusual for him then you may want to take him to the vet tomorrow. If he is soaking in his water bowl more than normal he could be suffering from mites or something else uncomfortable. Is he still eating?

If you don't add calcium reptile powder on every meal, and if you don't have a UVB and a UVA light bulb, then your lizard may develop metabolic bone disease( M.B.D). If this happens your lizards bones will soften, making fractions and breaks a high risk when taking a fall. Also, your lizards may lose muscle strength, and eventually lose muscle control. This will result in difficulty or disability to move, or muscle spasms, and eventually death. Get your dragon some veterinary assistance now! Location permitting, let him bask in unfiltered natural sunlight for up to two hours a day. This behavior may also be due to a respiratory infection, which, although extremely difficult to remedy, can be cured with consistently making sure that his cage is 92 degrees Fahrenheit, that you supervise a warm soak for 10 minutes every other day, dry him off, and making sure that the cage stays relatively dry( but don't let him dehydrate).

I would say he's cold, the temp gradient is not enough, bored (try cleaning and changing cage), grew to big for the terrarium or about to molt.

Hope this helps.

By temp gradient I mean the difference between the hot spot and the low spot. If the difference is not enough, they'll be blah. He's not coming out of the water ever, this could be it.

i had a chinese water dragon for 8 years (not sure of the difference). it seemed he would cycle through activity and eating. in the winter, even though his cage was still warm, he would not be as active, he'd eat but not as much. during the warm months, he'd be really active. when he would get ready to molt, his color would dull, he'd gorge himself for a couple days then stop eating altogether. he'd start to peel after a few days, soaking a lot then he'd return to normal. after he was full grown, he'd only peel 1-2 times a year. i had a potted corn plant that i would let him sit in if it was warm in the house. a change of scenery might help. they are very funny lizards, lot's of personality.

If he just ate yesterday, I think he is all right.
Lizards are less active once they reach adulthood, plus it is the darkest part of the year right now, which usually slows them down.
You might put him in a warm spot to help his digestion and warm him up. He'll probably be fine.

Look at the site www.reptilia.com for your lizards care needs to see if you conform with what they say the lizard needs.
Hope he comes around.
